Privacy Policy — The Citizen’s Compass

The Citizen’s Compass (thecitizenscompass.com) is operated by Liberty’s Principles Media LLC. This page supplements our Ecosystem Privacy Policy with information specific to this platform.
1. Our Platform
The Citizen’s Compass platform includes:
- Education App (thecitizenscompass.com) — Gamified civic learning with quizzes, badges, streaks, and Constitution exploration
- Legal Assistant (app.thecitizenscompass.com) — AI-powered Florida family law information
Both apps share a single Firebase project and authentication system.
2. Education App Data
When you use the Education App, we collect:
- Account information: Name, email, password (via Firebase Auth)
- Learning progress: Principles studied, quiz scores (raw count 0-5), XP earned, badges achieved, daily login streaks, journal entries
- Mode preferences: Family, Citizen, or Educator mode selection
- Congress.gov data: The app fetches public bill information; no personal data is sent to Congress.gov
All progress data is synced to Firebase Firestore at userProgress/{uid} and is accessible only to you.
3. Legal Assistant Data
- Legal questions: Your questions are processed by Claude (Anthropic) via a Cloud Function
- Conversation history: Up to 6 exchanges are maintained during your session for context. Conversation history is not permanently stored
- Corpus data: The Legal Assistant searches a pre-embedded corpus of publicly available Florida family law statutes and county procedures. Your questions are never added to this corpus
- Embeddings: Voyage AI generates vector embeddings for the legal corpus (not for user queries at runtime)

All AI providers process data under commercial API agreements and do not use your inputs for model training.
5. Cookies & Analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) and Firebase Analytics to understand how our platform is used. We also use CookieYes for cookie consent management. By default:
- Ad tracking is denied until you consent
- Analytics are enabled to help us improve the platform
- If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, all tracking (including analytics) is automatically denied
6. Data Retention
- Account & progress data: Retained while your account is active
- Legal Assistant conversations: Session-only; not permanently stored
- Analytics: Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics default retention
