These Terms supplement the Ecosystem Terms of Service and apply specifically to thecitizenscompass.com and app.thecitizenscompass.com.

1. Legal Assistant Disclaimers

The Citizen’s Compass Legal Assistant (app.thecitizenscompass.com) is an AI-powered tool that provides information about Florida family law statutes and county court procedures. By using the Legal Assistant, you acknowledge and agree that:

• This is NOT legal advice. The Legal Assistant provides general legal information, not advice tailored to your specific circumstances
• No attorney-client relationship is created. Using this service does not create any privileged, confidential, or professional relationship
• The Citizen’s Compass is not a law firm and does not practice law. It is not authorized to provide legal advice in any jurisdiction
• AI limitations. Responses are generated by Claude (Anthropic) using a retrieval-augmented generation pipeline over Florida family law statutes. AI can produce errors, hallucinations, or outdated information
• No guarantee of accuracy. While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that any response is complete, current, or applicable to your situation
• Florida family law only. The Legal Assistant covers Florida family law statutes and procedures for 12 fully-covered counties (Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton, Broward, Duval, Hillsborough, Leon, Miami-Dade, Orange, Palm Beach, Pinellas) with statutes-only coverage for other Florida counties
• Consult an attorney. For legal advice about your specific situation, consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction

2. AI Interaction Disclosure

When you use the Legal Assistant, you are interacting with an artificial intelligence system, not a human attorney or legal professional. Specifically:

• Your question is matched against pre-embedded query templates
• Relevant Florida statute sections are retrieved via hybrid search (vector + keyword)
• Claude (Anthropic) generates a response with statute citations
• No human reviews individual responses before delivery

3. Education App Terms

The Education App (thecitizenscompass.com) is a gamified civic learning platform. By using it, you agree:

• Educational purpose only. Content about the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and founding principles is educational and may be simplified for accessibility
• Not authoritative legal interpretation. Our explanations of constitutional provisions are educational summaries, not legal interpretations. Courts may interpret provisions differently
• Congress.gov data. Live bill information is sourced from the Congress.gov API and may not reflect the most current status
• Account data. Your progress (XP, badges, streaks, quiz scores, journal entries) is stored in Firebase and accessible only to you
• Educator mode. Educator features require approval. Educator access may be revoked if misused

4. When to Seek Professional Help

Neither the Legal Assistant nor the Education App is a substitute for professional legal counsel. You should consult a licensed attorney if:

• You are involved in or anticipating a family law proceeding (divorce, custody, support)
• You need to understand how the law applies to your specific facts
• You need to file legal documents or meet court deadlines
• You are a victim of domestic violence (call the National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233)
